Symposium on Intergenerational Learning

The Symposium on Intergenerational Learning: Workplace Learning, Community Learning and Learning within the Family was organized and hosted by the Department of Educational Sciences with the support of Asia-Europe Foundation and ASEM: Education and Research Hub for Lifelong Learning during 19–21 November 2015.

The plenary sessions were lectured by invited speakers Ann-Kristin Boström, Stockholm University (Lifelong learning and intergenerational learning in different cultures and contexts), Julia Franz, Universität Tübingen (A systematical perspective on intergenerational learning), Trudy Corrigan, Dublin City University (Creating a Programme in Intergenerational Learning in Higher Education as a Contribution to public understanding of the benefits of intergenerational engagement in Europe and around the globe) and Bernhard Schmidt-Hertha, Universität Tübingen (Intergenerational learning about media within the family). Following round table was focusing on the question What is the role of intergenerational learning in current society.

The second day of the symposium included two workshops led by Kendra Geeraerts (Intergenerational knowledge brokerage in school teams) and Cathy Fowley (A sense of story, a sense of place: family photo-albums as a tool for intergenerational communication). On the third day of the symposium the programme was structured about methodological issues and ASEM project presentations and future plans.
