International conference ICET 2017

The Department of Educational Sciences, Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, held from June 28 to June 30, 2017 an international conference within the framework of International Council on Education for Teaching (ICET). The conference subtitle was: Re-thinking Teacher Professional Education: Using Research Findings for Better Learning. The conference brought together 150 scholars, deans of pedagogical faculties, teachers and school policy makers from all continents, who discussed the possibilities of teacher education and career development and the use of research findings to improve current practice. Specific topics of the conference were: quality of education, teaching in the digital age, international trends in teacher education, student voice, the use of international partnerships and networking in school practice.

Conferences of the ICET international network take place each year on a different continent, which leads to the internationalization of the individual universities organizing the conference and at the same time to strengthening of local networks. In addition to the talks of the keynote speakers, prof. Tom Russell (Queen’s University, Canada), who spoke about the concept of reflective practice, prof. Aileen Kennedy (The University of Edinburgh, Scotland), who focused in her talk on teacher education, assoc. prof. Petr Novotný and dr. Karla Brücknerová (FA, Masaryk University), who presented the findings of their research on intergenerational learning among teachers, there were nearly 100 presentations, symposia and workshops available to the conference participants.

As part of strengthening of local networks, a professional colloquium dedicated to the teaching profession and teacher education was held. Guarantors of the colloquium were Ondřej Liška, former Minister of Education, and Roman Švaříček, the chair of the conference organizing committee.

The conference was organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, JUDr. Bohumil Šimek, Governor of the South Moravian Region, and prof. Milan Pol, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, MU.
